Commuter Meal Plans
Welcome to the world of Gator Dining Services, the official food service provider for the University of Florida.
Studies of college students across the nation consistently show that students who eat and live on campus are more
involved, have higher grade point averages and are more likely to graduate than students living at home or off campus.
Dining halls are great social centers and provide an easy way to make new friends.
We off two types of plans: 1) Meal Plans 2) The Declining Balance Account. Both plans work off a magnetic strip on
your student ID card (Gator 1 Card), so once you get your card, there’s nothing more you need to do. When you
purchase your meal plan, your account will automatically be activated.
At our residential dining centers, you will find state-of-the-art dining concepts including a Mediterranean Kitchen,
American Bistro, Gator Grille, Latin Flavors, Vegan Corner, espresso cafes (Fall 09) mini ice cream bars (Fall 09)
and more. Our two residential dining centers, Fresh Food Company (located next to Broward Residence Hall on Inner
Road) and Gator Corner Dining Center (located on the corner of Gale Lemerand Drive and Stadium Road), feature upscale,
authentic foods from around the world -made fresh right before your eyes. But don’t worry; we also have all your
favorites too, like Oven Roasted Turkey, Carved Honey Ham, and Hot Juicy Burgers. For the third year in a row UF
Dining Services has been voted in the Top 10 Best Vegetarian-Friendly Colleges in the U.S. by PETA. The food at
both these locations is "unlimited seconds," including salads, sandwiches, entrees, vegetables, fruits, beverages
and desserts. In addition to the fantastic food and selection, dining at the residential facilities is also
extremely flexible. If you don’t have time to sit down and eat, you can always get your meal to go! Fall 2009
Meal Plans are now available for purchase.
Meal Plans
The Open-Access Meal Plan is recommended for all resident students and is the most economical and flexible way to eat
on campus! Choose from 5-day access (Monday through Friday) or 7-day access (7 days a week) – depending on whether
or not you plan to go home on weekends. No need to count how many meals you’ve used or how many you have left. No
extra cost to hang with your friends over ice cream! Gator Dining’s Open Access Meal Plans provide you with a VIP
pass to UF’s residential dining centers- any time of day or night the facilities are open. It’s more than breakfast,
lunch or dinner. You’ll make new friends over lattes or meet your study group in the evening for ice cream. Or,
if you’d prefer, you can just bring your laptop and surf the net using our free wireless internet and if you don’t
have time to sit down and eat, you can always get your meal to go! For added convenience, in addition to accessing
unlimited meals at Fresh Food Company and Gator Corner Dining Center, you may also use your Open-Access Meal Plan at
Home Zone as well as Orange and Brew (Fall 09) in the Reitz Union.
One of the great things about the Open-Access Meal Plan is its flexibility. Along with open access in the residential
dining halls, Home Zone and Orange and Brew, your plan also comes with a supplemental fund called Flex Bucks. These
supplemental dollars can be used at any of our on campus restaurants including Subway, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Moe’s
Southwest Grill, Starbucks Coffee and more.
For those students who do not need open access and prefer to purchase a set number of meals per week, per semester or
a la carte, we also offer a meal plan that provides 14 meals per week or a block plan which provides 150 meals for
you to eat anytime during the semester.
Commuter Meal Plans
There are two options for off campus students this fall – the 75 Block and 50 Block Commuter Meal Plans. These small,
convenient plans allow off campus students to enjoy on campus dining for a discounted price. Each block of meals
rolls over on a weekly basis, concluding at the end of the semester. These meals can be redeemed at the Fresh Food
Company at Broward Dining, Gator Corner Dining Center, Home Zone in the Reitz Union and, beginning in Fall 2009,
the Orange and Brew in the Reitz Union. In addition, both Meal Plans include Flex Bucks so you can eat all over
campus at places such as Starbucks Coffee, Chick-fil-A, Sushi & Noodle Bar, and more! These plans are available
exclusively to students living off campus.
Kosher Meal Plans
Looking for a Kosher meal plan? In partnership with UF Hillel, we are pleased to offer two kosher-only plans and
two kosher optional upgrades to any of Gator Dining’s meal plans. Choose from either 5 or 10 meals per week at the
Olam Café in the UF Hillel Building (Normal H. Lipoff Hall) for kosher-only meals. Or you can purchase an upgrade
of 20 or 40 meals that can be redeemed at the Olam Café or at UF’s dining halls (Fresh Food Company, Gator Corner
Dining Center, Home Zone or Orange and Brew). Meals at the Olam Café are provided for lunch and dinner services.
Flexibility to
Dine at Other Locations!
One of the great things about the Meal Plans is its flexibility. Along with the meals at Gator Corner Dining
Center, the Fresh Food Company, Home Zone and the Orange and Brew, your plan includes a special declining balance
supplement called Flex Bucks. Depending on the option you choose, you’ll get between $100 - $430 per semester to
use at any of the other dining locations on campus including Subway, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Starbucks Coffee,
Chick-fil-A, Java City, Burger King, Quiznos Sub, Moe's Southwest Grill, Chili's Too, Pollo Tropical and more.
Meet, Greet, & Eat!
It’s often difficult being away from home for the first time and making new friends. As the residential dining
centers are conveniently located close to many of the residence halls on campus, they are a natural gathering
spot for students to meet, greet, and eat. Join your neighbors for coffee, a meal, or a late evening snack.
What better way to get acquainted?
Choosing the Right Option For You
With the 7 day Open-Access Plan, the average price for unlimited meals and snacks per access is only $3.25!
With the 5 Day Open- Access Plan, the average price for unlimited meals and snacks per access is $3.79.
For those students who do not need open access and prefer to purchase a set number of meals per week, per semester,
or a la carte, the following options might be right for you.
We offer 14 meals per week option, which averages about $5.41 per meal or the 150 Block Plan which gives you 150
meals to use each semester and it averages about $7.67 per meal.
Not sure that the Meal Plans will fit your new campus life-style? Don’t worry — there is a grace period at the
beginning of the fall semester during which time you may convert the prorated value of your meal plan to a Declining
Balance Account. All you have to do is come into the Gator Dining office and fill out the conversion form. So, you
have nothing to lose by trying on one of these plans!
In addition, those students who join a fraternity or sorority that has its own mandatory meal plan component may
apply for a prorated refund of their Residential Meal Plan at any time during the semester. You may also apply for
a prorated refund if you withdraw from school. Note: refunds are prorated to the date we receive all required
paperwork. Please call our business office for additional details.
Receiving Financial Aid?
If so, you may be able to eat now and pay later. You may qualify to defer payment of your meal plans if
the expected amount of your financial aid award is large enough to cover your meal plan plus the amount of
your tuition, campus housing expenses and any bookstore deferment you may have chosen. Please call Gator
Dining Services for additional details (352-392-2491).
